Job Summary:
The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District is seeking a skilled School Nurse to provide primary health and emergency care to students, promote wellness, and serve as a resource for health concerns in the school setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer medications and treatments as ordered by healthcare providers.
- Provide care for student and staff illness and accidents, including first aid and basic life support.
- Develop and implement individual health care plans and emergency care plans for students.
- Serve as a liaison between the home and the school regarding student health concerns, communicating with parents and guardians as needed.
- Document all encounters in the Electronic Health Record, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
- Follow communicable disease control procedures, informing administration and/or parents regarding school exclusion and readmission.
Requirements:
- Current Wisconsin State license as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Current certification in CPR.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of current practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases, including asthma management, diabetes, insulin pen and pumps, seizure management.
- Ability to perform skilled nursing care, such as catheterization, suctioning, gastrostomy tube feedings, insulin administration, insulin pump skills, and nebulizer treatments.
- Computer skills, including proficiency in electronic health records.
- Bilingual candidates (Spanish/English) are strongly preferred.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing or related field.
- Experience in pediatric and/or community or public health nursing.
- Prior experience in school nursing or acute care setting.
