Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Substitute School Nurse to provide primary health and emergency care to students in the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District. As a Substitute School Nurse, you will be responsible for administering medications and treatments, providing care for student and staff illness and accidents, and serving as a liaison between the home and the school regarding student health concerns.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered.
  • Provide care for student and staff illness and accidents.
  • Administer care based on individual health care plans and individual emergency care plans.
  • Serve as liaison between the home and the school regarding student health concerns.
  • Document all encounters in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Follow communicable disease control procedures and inform administration and/or parents regarding school exclusion and readmission.

Requirements:

  • Hold current Wisconsin State license as a Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Current certification in CPR.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases: asthma management, diabetes, insulin pen and pumps, seizure management.
  • Ability to perform skilled nursing care such as catheterization, suctioning, gastrostomy tube feedings, insulin administration, insulin pump skills and nebulizer treatments.
  • Computer skills.
  • Bilingual candidates (Spanish/English) are strongly preferred.
