Job Overview

The Crater Packer 5 is a critical role within our Southern States LLC team, responsible for fabricating wooden crates or boxes using hand and power tools. This position requires attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to work well under pressure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shipping notices, and other specifications to determine materials and quantities needed.
  • Lay out dimensions on materials with precision, using measuring tapes and pencils.
  • Operate band saws, table saws, and cut-off saws to saw wood and metal materials to size.
  • Assemble materials as needed, bundling products together or placing them in containers.
  • Bolt heavy pieces to the bottom of containers or skids, ensuring stability and security.
  • Wrap and pad products with paper or other packing materials, protecting them during transit.
  • Build crates around large or odd-shaped articles, using nails to secure the cover.
  • Attach identification labels or stencils containing shipping information, weight, and product type.
  • Repair broken crates, ensuring they meet quality standards.
  • Count items to be packed, ensuring compliance with shipping orders.
  • Weigh loaded crates, verifying accuracy.
  • Transport products, containers, crates, lumber, or other shipping materials using fork trucks or pallet jacks.
  • Maintain equipment and working areas in a clean and orderly condition.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to six months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to add and subtract whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, using simple mathematical and geometric devices.
  • WorkKeys ACT Score (Applied Math – 4, Graphic Literacy – 4, Workplace Observation – 2).
