Crater Packer 5

We are seeking a skilled Crater Packer 5 to join our team at Southern States LLC. As a key member of our fabrication and packing team, you will be responsible for fabricating wooden crates or boxes using hand and power tools and packing items such as machinery or other large or odd-shaped products.

• Read and interpret blueprints, shipping notices, and other specifications to determine materials and quantities needed.
• Lay out dimensions on materials using rulers, measuring tapes, and pencils.
• Set up and operate band saws, table saws, and/or cut-off saws to saw wood and metal materials to size.
• Assemble materials as needed and bundle products together or place them in containers.
• Bolt heavy pieces to the bottom of containers or skids and wrap and pad products with paper or other packing materials.
• Build crates around large or odd-shaped articles, nail covers on crates, and attach identification labels or stencils containing shipping information.
• Repair broken crates, count items to be packed to ensure compliance with shipping orders, and weigh loaded crates.
• Transport products, containers, crates, lumber, or other shipping materials using fork trucks or pallet jacks and maintain equipment and working areas in a clean and orderly condition.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to six months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to add and subtract whole numbers, fractions, and decimals and use simple mathematical and geometric devices.
• WorkKeys ACT Score (Applied Math – 4, Graphic Literacy – 4, Workplace Observation – 2).
