Position Overview: Under the general oversight of the Vice President for Medical Affairs (VPMA), this role is pivotal in shaping, executing, and enhancing the MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center Safety Program. The manager will cultivate strong partnerships with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), and other key leaders to align with their objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize best practice frameworks to assess, redesign, or create and implement various components of the Safety Program.
  • Once established, ensure the necessary resources are in place for the ongoing effective operation of these components, gathering feedback from stakeholders at both local and system levels.
  • Establish metrics and processes to guarantee that critical aspects of the Safety Program are measured, monitored, and continuously enhanced.
  • Foster robust relationships with essential stakeholders within the MedStar system and local Safety programs, as well as Risk Management teams.

Qualifications:

Education: A Master's degree in Nursing is preferred; a Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. Note that one year of relevant education may substitute for one year of required work experience.

Experience: 3-4 years of clinical and/or safety experience is preferred. One year of relevant professional-level work experience may substitute for one year of required education.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in clinical content management review.
  • Outstanding organizational capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with a high level of problem-solving ability.
  • Familiarity with various computer software applications.

Strategic Contributions: Collaborate with the VPMA to develop and implement the overarching patient safety strategic plan for MFSMC, emphasizing safety reporting, fostering a culture of psychological safety, facilitating systems-based event reviews, and developing safety metrics. Additionally, train associates and leaders on safety science principles.

Contribute to the achievement of departmental goals and objectives while adhering to established policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety regulations. Ensure compliance with all relevant governmental and accreditation regulations.

Relationship Building: Establish connections with departmental safety, clinical, and operational leaders to enhance program effectiveness and propose improvements.

Project Management: Lead task forces or councils to plan, implement, and coordinate safety improvement initiatives for MFSMC. Drive the integration and collaboration of various safety programs across the organization.

Oversee the operational planning, development, coordination, implementation, and management of safety initiatives. Identify opportunities for safety performance improvement and engage with the system Safety and Risk Management teams to leverage their expertise.

Manage the revision and review of policies and procedures, and oversee operational dashboards to track ongoing projects, safety issues, and challenges. Propel change by establishing standardized processes to address issues effectively and achieve departmental quality and safety goals.

Prepare and analyze safety reports and data for the VPMA and other key stakeholders. Participate in local and system-level meetings and committees, representing the organization in community outreach efforts. Engage in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams, and perform additional duties as assigned.
