Job Summary

Mission Community Hospital is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team in the laboratory department. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Duties
    • Perform venipuncture phlebotomy according to hospital policy and procedure, as well as OSHA regulations.
    • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to extract an adequate and reliable blood specimen with minimal trauma to the patient.
    • Apply age-specific competency in phlebotomy to ensure accurate and reliable results.
    • Prepare specimens in the pre-analytical stage of testing for in-house and reference laboratory specimens accurately and consistently.
    • Utilize the laboratory information system and Order Management System to monitor system operations, investigate problems, and train other laboratory employees.
    • Adhere to hospital and laboratory policies and procedures, including attendance, dress code, meal breaks, work schedule, and patient confidentiality.
  • Clerical and Customer Service Duties
    • Maintain department filing and perform clerical duties according to established procedure.
    • Assist with the setting up of microbiology specimens competently under the direct supervision of a licensed technologist.
  • Miscellaneous Duties
    • Ensure adequate stock of supplies within the area of responsibility by performing an inventory at the start of shift.
    • Communicate with supervisor whenever inventory is low.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • CPT license
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • College training in basic sciences preferred
  • BLS certification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software at an intermediate level
  • Fire Card
