Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Special Education Paraeducator to join our team at Stamford Public Schools. As a Paraeducator, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs, working closely with certified staff to provide individualized services and accommodations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide academic and behavioral support to students with special needs, under the supervision of certified staff.
  • Assist with data collection and progress monitoring to inform instruction and support student growth.
  • Follow student schedules and seek clarification as needed to ensure seamless support.
  • Assist with the handling and operation of equipment and materials in the classroom.
  • Supervise students during emergency drills, assemblies, and other non-classroom activities.
  • Support the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Foster independence in students through the implementation of independence goals and strategies.
  • Assist with daily living needs, such as feeding and bathroom accommodations.
  • Assist with organization and on-task behavior.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans under the direction of certified staff.
  • Provide support to substitute teachers and assist with the implementation of health care plans for students.
  • Alert certified staff to any problems or special information related to individual students.
  • Help students master equipment and instructional materials assigned by certified staff.
Requirements
  • Must follow the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requirements and have passed the ParaPro Assessment, hold an Associate's Degree, or have completed at least 60 credits at an approved college.
  • Must possess or be willing to acquire the skills necessary to support any specialized programs for Special Needs students, including support of behavioral plans, strategies for autism or other identified diagnoses, or support for treatments such as ABA or activities of daily living such as feeding and toileting.
  • Experience/training in working with children preferred.
  • Comfort with use of standard computer applications.
