Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Phlebotomy Lab Assistant to join our team at Spaulding Hospital Cambridge. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our phlebotomy services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect blood specimens from patients of all ages, including geriatric, adult, children, and infants, while addressing their unique needs and adhering to phlebotomy standards.
  • Conduct outstanding phlebotomy draws, ensuring timely completion and meeting expected time frames.
  • Perform technical duties in accordance with laboratory guidelines, including equipment cleaning, inventory management, and assisting with faxes and reports as needed.
  • Assist with clerical and administrative tasks, such as answering calls, making reports, and contributing to departmental needs.
  • Receive patient test specimens, generate barcode labels, and label specimens according to departmental standards.
  • Participate in additional departmental, organizational, or network activities aligned with established objectives.
  • Embody the PCC Organizational Values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
Qualifications and Experience
  • High School diploma required.
  • One year of clinical internship or on-the-job training in a clinical or hospital laboratory is required.
  • One to two years of phlebotomy experience is preferred.
Skills and Certifications
  • Phlebotomy course training in a State-approved institution is required.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new software, is required.
  • Knowledge of LIS, computer, keyboard, and MS Windows is required.
  • Certification in Phlebotomy is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations, are highly valued.
  • Self-directed and able to work independently, with a high level of service delivery and attention to detail.
