Employee Relations Specialist Position Highlights:

As a key member of the NorthShore PC Service team, the Employee Relations Specialist will serve as the center of expertise for human resources policies, practices, and procedures. This role will administer and assist management in the application of corporate policies and activities to ensure consistency. The specialist will also provide internal consulting services to managers regarding complex employee relations matters, policy interpretation, and application, wage and hour compliance, FMLA, Harassment policy, Leave of Absence policies, and union avoidance strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Investigate complaints and/or charges filed regarding violations of company policies, state, and federal laws governing employment practices, and prepare appropriate responses.
  • Review all corrective actions; review requests for suspensions and terminations to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Provide investigatory support to the Director in complex employee relations matters and in the employee resolution process.
  • Assist the Director and outside legal counsel in preparation for unemployment and government agency hearings.
  • Partner with the Director to prepare and present management training in connection with employment practices, changes in policies and procedures, and in-service education as warranted.
  • Ensure consistency with the practice and administration of policies and procedures.
  • Represent Human Resources on various company committees as assigned.
  • Participate in organizational initiatives as assigned by the Director.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • 3+ years of HR generalist and/or employee relations experience, preferably in a healthcare setting; labor relations experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates in-depth and current knowledge of local, state, and federal laws pertaining to employment policies and practices.
  • Ability to assist managers in the resolution of personnel and labor issues through advice and counsel, demonstrating creativity and flexibility.
  • Ability to prepare and present written material (investigation reports, employee resolution process responses, position statements) as required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, and handle public contact with discretion, tact, and courtesy.
