About the Role:

As an Orthopedic Care Specialist at SSM Health, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our orthopedic team. Your primary responsibility will be to assist with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a registered nurse or provider.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply and remove splints and casts, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Assess cast material needs and application techniques for patients, providing expert advice and guidance.
  • Measure and fit patients for hinged braces, ordering appliances and documenting measurements and results.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding cast/splint application, care, and removal, promoting a positive patient experience.
  • Document events in the patient's medical record, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Escort orthopedic patients within the clinic when necessary, ensuring timely and efficient care.
  • Participate in telephone screening of cast patients for cast education, referral to nurse, physician, and appointment desk.
  • Assist with surgical procedures done in the procedure room, demonstrating a commitment to patient safety and well-being.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner, adhering to SSM Health's safety protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to adapt to changing priorities.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
  • One additional year of training and one year relevant orthopedic experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Frequent use of hearing to distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting/moving patients.
  • Occasional use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Occasional driving.
