Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Firearms Specialist to join our team at the Marine Corps Base Exchange, Camp Elmore, Norfolk, VA. As a Firearms Specialist, you will provide world-class customer service, focusing on delivering a best-in-class customer experience and driving strong customer engagement with the firearms department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring a positive experience for all customers.
  • Focus on solution-based selling, offering applicable accessories and services to customers in addition to firearms.
  • Strictly adhere to all governing bodies' processes and requirements, including ATF, FFL, DOD, Marine Corps, State, Corporate, and local command.
  • Communicate with management to support customer inventory requests and general business needs.
  • Use exception reporting to identify merchandise categories requiring corrective action to protect sales and customer service levels.
  • Follow the special order process according to standard processes.
  • Support advertisement and promotional setup requirements, including merchandising, signing, pricing, and other tasks as needed.
  • Actively engage with Sales Managers on all departmental operations, ensuring RIMA scans are completed and follow-through is executed, including inventory adjustments when necessary.
  • Support and participate in year-end inventory planning, execution, and researching variance reports.
  • Support store operations in areas of POGs, replenishing the sales floor, managing on-hand integrity, receiving products, backroom organization, customer program engagement, cash register duties, and other operational tasks both within and outside of the assigned department.
  • Mentor, train, and lead by example for firearms employees to achieve best practice and brand standards.
  • Maintain the highest service levels and communicate with all stakeholders, including customers, associates, and all management levels.
  • Complete all required training to maintain Firearms eligibility.
  • May work outside of retail in other firearms activities within MCCS, including the firing range or target practice facility.
  • May maintain some or all key holder standards, including opening, closing, vendor management, light custodial duties, and register operations/cash handling.
  • May require additional training, certifications, or licenses as required by the business/position, including food safety training and military star card access.
  • Participate in year-end inventory and identify and communicate potential risk of loss and/or theft.
  • Promote the cultivation of MCX corporate culture, mission, core values, and promote Marine Corps Community Services at the store level.
  • Articulate MCX value stories and engage with all management and team members through conversations, modeling behaviors, supporting store team-centric initiatives, and driving team member satisfaction.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and standards and adhere to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
  • This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 45 lbs. with assistance may be required.
  • May require loading and unloading of trucks, carts, or pallets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be 21 years old.
  • One year of sales associate or sales lead experience in a retail environment.
  • Ability to learn, execute, and train operating standards and procedures.
  • Experience leading by example and showcasing best practice customer service and problem-solving.
  • Proficient in operating a computer with knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:

  • Two years of specialty retail experience with firearms, tactical, and outdoor sporting goods.

FOR POSITIONS INVOLVING FIREARMS/AMMUNITION ONLY:

  • This is a covered position for the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act for Department of the Navy civilian personnel.
  • Due to contact with firearms or ammunition in accomplishing work, DD Form 2760 certifying whether or not a qualifying conviction for a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence has occurred MUST be completed.
  • The yearly obligation to notify your immediate supervisor of any qualifying conviction through completion of DD Form 2760 is REQUIRED.
  • Ability to successfully obtain/maintain a Tier 3 background investigation.
