Job Summary

As a key member of the radiation oncology team at Kaiser Permanente, the successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of radiation oncology treatment machines and equipment, as well as the clinical relevance of brachytherapy. This individual will work closely with medical physicists and radiation oncologists to generate radiation dose distributions and dose calculations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement accurate treatment plans in accordance with radiation oncologists' prescriptions and instructions.
  • Present treatment plans and calculations to radiation oncologists for approval.
  • Communicate treatment plans and dosimetry calculations to appropriate staff.
  • Assist in simulations and localizations as needed.
  • Coordinate treatment simulations and tumor localization on dedicated devices.
  • Supervise, perform, or assist in the planning of the fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam modifying devices.
  • Supervise, perform, or assist in the planning of production of moulds, casts, and other immobilization devices.
  • Participate in clinical research for the development and implementation of new techniques.
  • Participate in continuing education in current treatment planning techniques and advances in medical dosimetry.
Basic Qualifications
  • Graduate of a formally organized hospital or college-affiliated medical dosimetry program.
  • Basic Life Support certification within one month of hire.
Additional Requirements
  • Employee must become certified within two years of employment.
  • Employee must possess a Bachelor's degree in physical or biological sciences or be a registered radiation therapy therapist.
  • Employee must demonstrate completion of two or more years of on-the-job training and work experience in radiation therapy and/or medical dosimetry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three to five years of experience as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist.
  • Experience with IMRT and SRS.
  • Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) certification.
Requirements
  • Must be able to understand technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics.
  • Must be able to communicate technical aspects to radiation oncologists and radiation therapists.
  • Must be able to operate and perform quality assurance on treatment planning computers.
  • Must have working knowledge of radiation safety and current rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
  • Must be able to interpret and execute treatment plans as defined in relevant treatment protocols.
  • Must possess mathematical skills including algebra, trigonometry, and introductory calculus.
