As a key member of the radiation oncology team at Kaiser Permanente, the successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of radiation oncology treatment machines and equipment, as well as the clinical relevance of brachytherapy. This individual will work closely with medical physicists and radiation oncologists to generate radiation dose distributions and dose calculations.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement accurate treatment plans in accordance with radiation oncologists' prescriptions and instructions.
- Present treatment plans and calculations to radiation oncologists for approval.
- Communicate treatment plans and dosimetry calculations clearly and accurately to relevant staff members.
- Assist in simulations and localizations as needed, and coordinate treatment simulations and tumor localization on dedicated devices.
- Supervise, perform, or assist in the planning of the fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam modifying devices.
- Participate in clinical research for the development and implementation of new techniques, as necessary.
- Stay up-to-date with current treatment planning techniques and advances in medical dosimetry through ongoing education and training.
- Graduate of a formally organized hospital or college-affiliated medical dosimetry program with clinical and classroom curriculum.
- Basic Life Support certification within one month of hire.
- Additional requirements include a Bachelor's degree in a physical or biological science, or a registered radiation therapy therapist, with two or more years of on-the-job training and work experience in radiation therapy and/or medical dosimetry.
- Board eligibility and certification within two years of employment.
- Three to five years of experience as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD).
- Experience with IMRT and SRS.
- CMD certification.
- Ability to understand technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to derive computerized treatment plans.
- Mathematical skills, including algebra, trigonometry, and introductory calculus.
