What is the role of the Merchandise Supervisor?

Under the guidance of the Store Manager, this position directly oversees the Freight team and all store associates while acting as the Manager on Duty. The Merchandise Supervisor is accountable for implementing merchandising standards throughout the store. This role also focuses on delivering exceptional customer experiences, maintaining operational controls, ensuring inventory accuracy, safeguarding assets, upholding cleanliness, and driving sales.

This entails not only excelling in your responsibilities as the Merchandise Supervisor but also exemplifying leadership qualities and performing effectively as a manager on duty. In this capacity, you will achieve results during your designated shifts, influence key performance indicators, and foster brand loyalty by leading your team effectively. The Merchandise Supervisor is a vital member of the management team that establishes the tone by embracing and living the Five Below Values. Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure flawless execution of the Merchandise Movement Process.
  • Oversee merchandising, signage, and resets in various categories.
  • Manage opening and closing store procedures.
  • Perform Store Manager duties in their absence.
  • Assist in supervising, training, coaching, and developing all associates.
  • Support staff scheduling and review corporate communications.
  • Collaborate with supervisors or corporate office regarding store matters.
  • Drive store sales while managing expenses.
  • Utilize financial reporting to identify business opportunities.
  • Assist with payroll processes and ensure budget compliance.
  • Maintain assigned zones and execute company inventory integrity processes.
  • Adhere to and enforce all Five Below's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Lead asset protection and safety initiatives.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service through direct engagement.
  • Participate in receiving and stocking processes.
  • Perform store maintenance tasks as needed.

Essential Functions:
  • Operate cash register frequently.
  • Move merchandise weighing up to 25 lbs and reach heights of 5-10 feet.
  • Ascend/descend ladders to retrieve and store stock.
  • Engage in physical activities such as kneeling, bending, and twisting.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and team members.
  • Navigate the sales floor and stock room efficiently.
  • Comprehend and act on email and print instructions.
  • Maintain a stationary position for a significant portion of the time.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred college experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a management role.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and think creatively.
  • Composure under pressure.
