Overview: The Mechanical Project Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting the Senior Project Engineer by leading and managing engineering tasks specific to projects while serving as the primary technical liaison for both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in identifying project priorities and scopes in collaboration with engineering managers, ensuring that all deliverables meet quality standards and adhere to project timelines.
- Participate in project meetings with clients, subcontractors, and management to ensure alignment and address potential risks.
- Engage in weekly design meetings to assess project status, discuss outstanding issues, and contribute to problem-solving efforts.
- Facilitate communication within the Engineering department and with other departments and clients.
- Conduct reviews of engineering outputs to identify potential risks and initiate mitigation strategies before construction begins.
- Evaluate and approve mechanical engineering deliverables within the Engineering department and across other departments.
- Oversee the development, review, and approval processes within the Engineering department's knowledge management system (KMS).
- Prepare and present technical metrics, schedules, and presentations to senior management, both internally and externally.
- Act as the representative for mechanical engineering matters, ensuring effective communication between production teams, regulatory bodies, and program management.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven leadership capabilities with strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Thorough understanding of relevant regulations and standards, including ABS, CFR, USCG, NVIC, and SOLAS.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, NavisWorks, and familiar with marine industry standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; a Master's degree in Engineering or Management is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, analytical abilities, and proficiency in teamwork are highly valued.
- Ability to recognize and leverage the strengths of project team members to form an effective team.
- Experience in both commercial and military projects is advantageous.
Experience Requirements:
A minimum of five years of engineering experience or a related field, alongside a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or twelve years of progressive experience in marine project design and construction.
