Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Management
- Manage and supervise a team of department staff, including hiring, training, and performance management.
- Assign, direct, and supervise staff; act as a resource providing knowledge and technical assistance as needed.
- Compliance and Governance
- Ensure compliance with internal and external policies, procedures, and regulations governing valuation and equalization activities.
- Review, interpret, and implement tax legislation directives as they pertain to valuation and equalization functions.
- Communication and Presentation
- Prepare and deliver presentations at various meetings, including City and County Commissions, Township Boards, and other relevant committees.
- Provide information to the community regarding property exemptions and departmental programs.
- Customer Service and Resolution
- Authorize property exemptions in accordance with mandated qualifications criteria.
- Receive, investigate, and resolve taxpayer complaints.
- Financial Management
- Review County and City sales ratio data for accuracy.
- Develop, administer, and monitor the department budget.
- Confidentiality and Data Management
- Maintain confidentiality of non-public records.
- Make available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.
- Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Three (3) years' experience as a Tax Assessor, including two (2) years of supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Certifications and Licenses
- Must possess and maintain Class I Assessor Certification.
- Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver's License, or equivalent.
- Personal Qualities
- Ability to work in variable weather conditions and rough terrains.
- Ability to climb stairs and/or ladders.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to attend occasional evening and early morning meetings.
Williams County offers a competitive compensation package, including a starting pay range of $37.502 to $40.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. We also provide generous benefits to full-time regular employees, including paid sick and vacation leave, a fully paid health/dental/vision benefit plan for employees and dependents, term life insurance of $25,000, 100% contribution toward retirement benefits through the ND Public Employees Retirement System, and 12 paid holidays each year.
