The Engineer is responsible for ensuring the operational integrity of the mechanical systems within the facility. This role includes maintaining a clean and safe environment in the boiler room and water plant area, providing essential maintenance services throughout the hospital, and assisting with various building trade skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and regulate mechanical equipment, including engines, compressors, generators, pumps, and steam boilers during assigned shifts.
- Monitor water levels in boilers and domestic water tanks; observe and record data from meters and gauges; make necessary adjustments to maintain compliance with operational standards.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of boilers and associated equipment.
- Conduct water quality tests and apply necessary chemicals to prevent scale buildup.
- Execute repairs and perform annual maintenance on boilers as required.
- Inspect mechanical rooms periodically during shifts.
- Provide preventive maintenance and repair services to various equipment and structures within the facility.
- Assess and test utility systems to ensure proper functionality and maintain accurate records.
- Assist with snow and ice removal and other grounds maintenance tasks.
- Conduct safety checks on biomedical equipment in the absence of designated personnel.
- Collaborate with other hospital staff as needed, including security and environmental services.
- Communicate project and work order statuses to relevant personnel.
- Participate in internal meetings and training sessions, adhering to policy reviews.
- Complete necessary documentation for quality assurance and inter-departmental communication.
- Engage in special projects and additional duties to uphold facility standards.
- Support the mission and values of RML Specialty Hospital by demonstrating core values in all interactions.
- Test fire alarm systems and maintain documentation for safety and utility systems.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and maintain necessary documentation.
Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
- Color differentiation skills for testing purposes.
- Capability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to detect unusual sounds from equipment.
- Proficient in operating heavy machinery.
- General maintenance skills and basic computer proficiency.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated skills in building trades (e.g., plumbing, HVAC).
Education & Experience:
Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Two to three years of experience in facility operations within a healthcare setting, with formal training through union or trade schools considered.
Licenses/Certifications:
Minimum: Current operating engineer license and valid driver's license.
Preferred: Certification in relevant building trades (e.g., plumbing, HVAC).
Working Environment:
Frequent exposure to machinery, high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, and temperature extremes. Rare contact with hazardous biological materials.
