Job Summary

The University of California, Irvine is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nurse Practitioner to join our Department of Surgery team. As a key member of our trauma and acute care team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, managing complex medical conditions, and collaborating with our multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Assess and manage the health needs of patients on the general surgery services and in the surgical intensive care unit
  • Participate in inpatient sign-out and follow up with the general surgery teams, residents, and attending physicians
  • Be involved in trauma resuscitations and perform surgical consultations on potential general surgery patients
  • Responsible for the care and organization of procedures, including scheduling operations, interventional procedures, and follow-up
  • Triage phone calls and respond to patient inquiries
  • Review critical labs, follow up on results with patients and medical staff, and obtain comprehensive medical histories
  • Perform initial and periodic physical examinations and assessments, and explore patients' interpretation of health needs
  • Identify and treat patients, manage treatment of hospitalized patients, and demonstrate an advanced level of medical knowledge and clinical/technical competence
Requirements
  • Familiarity with UC policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Windows and MS Office software applications
  • Experience in trauma/critical care nursing
  • Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI)
  • Current, active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS certification
  • Acute Care AGACNP-BC or ACNPC-AG certification
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System
