Nursing Supervisor Role Overview

The Nursing Supervisor (Registered Nurse) is a vital member of the healthcare team, working under the guidance of the Director of Nursing Services. This position is responsible for the planning, organization, and direction of nursing services to ensure the highest quality of care for residents at all times.

Qualifications for Nursing Supervisor
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current nursing license in the practicing state.
  • A minimum of one year of supervisory experience is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess sound mental, emotional, and physical health.

Key Responsibilities:

General Duties
  • Ensure residents are provided with a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment.
  • Initiate and manage resident Plans of Care upon admission.
  • Support the implementation of recommendations from consultants and the Quality Assurance team as directed.
  • Assist in the development and ongoing review of individualized resident Plans of Care.
  • Notify attending physicians and legal representatives of any significant changes in resident conditions.
  • Address and document family complaints and grievances as necessary.
  • Evaluate emergencies and assist in executing emergency protocols.
  • Maintain a clean and safe unit environment, ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are available for nursing care.
  • Document incidents and ensure all required reports are completed accurately.
  • Support the Charge Nurse in investigating any allegations of abuse or unusual occurrences.
  • Administer intravenous medications as prescribed.
  • Assist nursing staff with various nursing procedures as needed.
  • Facilitate the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for residents.
  • Collaborate in addressing findings from health department inspections and quality assurance reviews.
  • Conduct assessments and evaluations as required, ensuring thorough documentation of care provided.
  • Participate in staff meetings and continuing education opportunities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing Services or Administrator.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Conduct rounds to ensure quality care is delivered and address any issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff to identify areas for improvement in resident care.
  • Assist in physician rounds as necessary.
  • Support the Charge Nurse in adjusting assignments during staffing shortages.
  • Oversee and guide nursing personnel in their duties.
  • Participate in performance evaluations and disciplinary actions as needed.

Consumer Service Commitment
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in appearance and communication.
  • Adhere to company standards for addressing consumer concerns.
  • Ensure the protection of all resident rights.
