Job SummaryThe Patient Safety Technician plays a critical role in supporting the nursing staff by providing direct observation and monitoring of patients on a continuous basis. This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to remain alert and attentive at all times.
Key Responsibilities- Receive report on a patient from the charge nurse and review the PST Assignment form, PST flow sheet form, and patient handoff form.
- Introduce yourself to the patient and explain your responsibilities in a clear and concise manner.
- Remain in the patient room unless given approval to leave by the RN, and maintain an unobstructed view of the patient at all times.
- Monitor the patient's condition and notify the RN immediately in the event of an emergency or sudden change in the patient's mood or behavior.
- Identify barriers to communication with the patient and collaborate with the nurse to improve communication if possible.
- Monitor the environment for safety and report any hazards or concerns to the RN.
- Ambulate and assist the patient in and out of bed or chair with approval from the charge nurse/RN.
- Set up food trays for meals for patients who can self-feed.
- Document on the PST Flow Sheet hourly and submit all forms to the RN at the end of the shift.
- Minimum of High School or GED required.
- Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, and input data.
