We are seeking a skilled ESOL Educator to join our team at CAMBA, a community-based organization dedicated to providing education and job training services in Brooklyn.
Job OverviewThe Adult Education Instructor – ESOL will teach students English as a second language, focusing on reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching ESL, experience working with diverse populations, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic classroom environment.
Responsibilities- Teach students at their level and provide instruction sequentially so that class participants can make standard educational gains within 6 months.
- Design daily lesson plans to meet core course objectives and prepare instructional materials for classroom use.
- Manage the classroom effectively to maximize student learning and review at-home assignments in class.
- Help students identify and make use of supplemental media resources, including those on literacycamba.org.
- Prepare, distribute, and grade periodic written assessments of students' progress.
- Facilitate peer tutoring in digital literacy and refer students who have apparent barriers in achieving their personal goals to case managers.
- Contact each student by phone or email in the event of a class scheduling change and/or after any student is absent from class for at least two consecutive days.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) and one year of applicable experience, or equivalent experience.
- Strong abilities in using Microsoft products (such as Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams), Zoom, Acrobat, and Google products.
- Familiarity with Common Core State Standards and the ability to integrate computer skills into the classroom instruction.
- Ability to adapt to the culture and environment of classes in a community-based organization setting.
$35.36 per hour
BenefitsThis part-time position offers paid sick-time off, 1 hour of prep at the end of each work week, and 6 hours of prep between teaching cycles.
