Bruker provides unique, high-value life science and diagnostic systems in areas such as preclinical imaging, clinical phenomics research, proteomics and multiomics, spatial and single-cell biology, functional structural and condensate biology, as well as clinical microbiology and molecular diagnostics.

Responsibilities:

As a leader in MALDI TOF mass spectrometry, Bruker relies on specialized solid-state lasers. To enhance our competitive advantage, we custom design and manufacture our lasers in-house. We are seeking an individual with extensive expertise in laser optics to lead a cross-functional team throughout the entire value chain, from design to service. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, overseeing design, tooling, manufacturing, quality assurance, supplier management, final testing, installation, and service. Troubleshooting and continuous improvement will be integral to this role, supported by a team of senior laser scientists, mechanical, electrical, and production engineers.

Your tasks will include:

  • Serving as the subject matter expert and team leader for all laser-related inquiries;
  • Establishing and maintaining a coherent tool design to ensure high quality, seamless production, and minimal service needs, including defining and enforcing all necessary quality control procedures;
  • Driving and executing continuous improvements in all aspects related to laser optics;
  • Managing our global suppliers to ensure the highest and most stable standards in material quality;
  • Engaging in troubleshooting during daily operations and being hands-on in production.

Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in physics or a related engineering discipline focused on laser optics;
  • Demonstrated background and practical experience in coherent optics and solid-state lasers;
  • Familiarity with SHG, THG, temperature, and angle tuning;
  • Proficiency in standard optical simulation tools such as Zemax;
  • Experience with mCAD and basic electronics is advantageous;
  • A few years of experience in an industrial context, preferably within the analytical industry, is a plus;
  • Initial experience in managing a diverse team is beneficial;
  • Basic communication skills in German, along with a willingness to improve, would facilitate cross-functional interactions;
  • Occasional international travel may be required;
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, coupled with a highly self-motivated attitude.
