Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Director to lead our Hematopathology department at Children's National Medical Center. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care, and advancing the department's services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administrative Leadership
    • Direct the operations of the Hematopathology department, ensuring effective communication with leadership and staff.
    • Meet regularly with program staff to provide leadership and guidance to achieve medical care goals.
    • Keep medical staff informed of changes in policies and procedures.
    • Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures for services in accordance with regulatory bodies.
    • Attend and present at departmental, organizational, and external meetings.
  • Professional Services
    • Collaborate with nursing leadership and other medical leadership to organize, coordinate, and monitor the activities of the Hematopathology staff.
    • Ensure the quality and appropriateness of services meet professional standards.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Establish and maintain a quality management system for the delivery of reliable services.
    • Monitor all physician and nurse complaints regarding services and/or turn-around time.
    • Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement.
  • Education and Training
    • Provide educational resources and support to staff, including in-service training and educational programs.
    • Teach and mentor nurses, residents, fellows, and medical students as needed.
  • Business and Financial Management
    • Collaborate with leadership to review budget performance reports, analyze variances, and develop action plans to achieve financial goals.
    • Provide statistics and management reports necessary for the operation and administration of services.
  • Organizational Leadership
    • Set and communicate team goals and priorities in alignment with departmental goals and budgets.
    • Develop procedures to ensure high safety and quality standards.
    • Identify customers' needs and ensure service excellence in meeting those needs.
