Field Engineering Leadership Position for Transportation Professionals

About the Role
Norfolk Southern is seeking a skilled Field Engineering Trainee to join our Maintenance of Way department. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our railroad operations.
As a Field Engineer, you will oversee maintenance teams responsible for tasks such as rail and track component replacements, crosstie replacement, and bridge maintenance. You will be equipped to inspect railroad tracks, address defects, and manage maintenance employees across various territories.
Responsibilities
- Inspect railroad tracks and remediate defects
- Manage maintenance employees, including rail gangs, tie gangs, and bridge and structures gangs
- Oversee maintenance and repair activities on a territory that may include one or more rail terminals
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, General Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Biosystems Engineering
- Or 4+ years of leadership and industrial experience (e.g., military, manufacturing, construction, agriculture, production environments)
- Strong planning, time management, and communication skills
- Ability to work in a field-oriented leadership position in all weather conditions
