Civil Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer to join our team at Denham Resources. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing land surveying, civil engineering, and utility locating projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Management: Oversee and direct field and office work associated with civil design and land survey projects.
  • Research and Documentation: Gather and supply essential documents and materials to direct the completion of field and/or office work.
  • Team Leadership: Delegate and supervise civil and survey technicians on assigned tasks.
  • Quality Control: Verify the work performed by assigned technicians for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable engineering standards and specifications.
  • Project Coordination: Guide and direct technician staff to stay on course with project schedules and budgets by monitoring completion of assigned field and office tasks.
  • Troubleshooting: Be available to troubleshoot and/or provide guidance to civil and survey technicians when issues arise with assigned work.
  • Project Budgeting: Drive completion of survey projects within contracted budgets and timeframes; provide regular updates to management and ownership on project budget and/or timeline slippage.
  • Scope Management: Effectively manage scope creep through timely communication and negotiation of Extra Work requirements when scope and/or client needs change.
  • Project Administration: Maintain project files and include all notes, communications, research, and design documents.
  • Design and Planning: Prepare and oversee detailed civil engineering design in connection with municipal public works and private capital improvement projects.
  • Engineering Design: Perform advanced professional engineering design that includes civil/site, roadway, drainage, stormwater management, pipelines, municipal and transportation structures, and signalized intersections.
  • Plan Preparation: Generate professional engineering plans, specifications, technical calculations, and engineering reports as dictated by assigned projects.
  • Site Observations: Conduct and oversee site observations, existing conditions backchecking, and written field reports.
  • Plan Review: Check plans and specifications to ensure a high level of standard for accuracy and completeness.
  • Development Planning: Review development plans and capital improvement plans and make recommendations regarding design, constructability, maintenance, and traffic-related issues.
  • Consultation: Meet with developers and/or consultants to resolve issues.
Requirements:
  • Engineering Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • RCE preferred.
  • Principles and practices of applied civil engineering to estimates, studies, technical reports, design, plans, specifications, and professional recommendations for a variety of engineering activities.
  • Land development, including planning and analysis of engineering systems needed for the use of land including streets, sewage, water facility, storm drain, grading, land use, and utilities.
  • Thorough understanding of design and drafting methods, including proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills.
  • Results-driven with the ability to function independently and multitask.
  • High attention to detail, resourcefulness, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to lead, manage, and hold employees accountable.
  • Demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude and is solutions-oriented.
