POSITION SUMMARY:
The Clinical Laboratory Technician will be responsible for performing blood draws, specimen collection, and various laboratory tests. This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and maintain equipment for blood collection and testing.
- Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) during all specimen handling.
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients.
- Accurately identify patients using multiple identifiers.
- Process and label specimens correctly, ensuring compliance with protocols.
- Enter patient information and laboratory requests into electronic systems.
- Instruct patients on specimen collection procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to infection control standards.
- Inventory and replenish supplies as necessary.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Applicants should possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have completed an accredited Phlebotomy program. A minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must hold or be eligible for a National Phlebotomy Certification, which should be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Proficient in phlebotomy techniques and laboratory protocols.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients and staff.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Attention to detail in data entry and specimen processing.
