Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Fabricator I to join our team at Ohio Gratings, Inc. As a Fabricator I, you will be responsible for welding and fabricating metal grating with precision and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret drawings and perform simple fabrications, including straight cuts and banding, nosing and toe plate application, and anchor block installation.
  • Meet quality and productivity expectations, ensuring high-quality products are delivered on time.
  • Responsible for the layout, assembly, and fabrication of various grating product lines, identifying material and spacing requirements as defined by job orders and drawings.
  • Work in a self-directed environment with limited supervision, utilizing overhead and jib cranes to move and place grating panels safely and efficiently.
  • Operate various power tools, including power saws, presses, grinders, cutting torches, band saws, cold saws, table saws, routers, and welders, while maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Accurately complete all paperwork and time sheets to manage inventory effectively.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment, determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Troubleshoot and assist with welding and fabrication questions in the business units as required.
  • Move to various production lines as needed, effectively communicating and working well with the team.
  • Keep personal and common work areas clean and organized, adhering to company standards.
  • Perform other duties and cross-train as assigned by supervision.

Requirements:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required, along with experience and/or knowledge in MIG and Stick Welding, Oxy/Fuel torch, Plasma torch, and AWS D1.1, D1.5, and/or D1.2.
  • Use and safe operation of various hand and power tools, certification out of position, and ability to read, interpret, and comprehend blueprint drawings.
  • Use and safely operate overhead cranes, read and understand both metric and standard tape measures, and perform mathematical operations with whole numbers and fractions with both standard and metric units of measure.
  • Ability to effectively work well with the team, with preferred experience in fabrication training and/or experience, and 2-4 years with a Steel, Stainless Steel, or Aluminum manufacturer, plus 1-2 years' experience with overhead cranes.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is encountered with repetitive movement tasks, which requires the employee to stand, walk, stoop, bend, reach, grasp, push, and pull grating material of various size and weights for long periods of time. Must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds, using proper lifting techniques, help from another employee, or other available resources such as lifting or moving equipment.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly working on the production floor. The work environment requires the use of Proper Protective Equipment (PPE). Exposure to noise, dust, heat, and cold on a regular basis. Exposure to machine and tool hazards requiring care and attention to safety rules and standards.
