About the Role

Symetra is seeking a highly skilled Financial Manager to join our Reinsurance Accounting Team. As a key member of our finance team, you will play a critical role in the GAAP and US Statutory close process, including the review of settlement files with affiliated and unaffiliated reinsurers.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills and experience in accounting for life and annuity reinsurance transactions. You will be responsible for reviewing financial statements and analysis of our captive reinsurance companies, as well as collaborating with various teams across Symetra's organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Analysts and Seniors, managing their daily financial tasks and adjusting workflows to ensure timely and accurate completion of deliverables.
  • Lead the team in executing daily financial operations, ensuring timely and accurate completion of deliverables.
  • Collaborate with various departments to drive operational or systems changes, continuously improving processes to meet financial results.
  • Exhibit leadership in cross-functional collaboration, effectively resolving issues.
  • Lead and/or participate in projects and operational improvements.
  • Maintain ongoing partnerships with other reporting teams to ensure accurate reporting and disclosures.
  • Handle ad hoc requests and projects as needed.

What We Offer:

  • A competitive salary range of $100,300 - $167,100, plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including flexible full-time or hybrid telecommuting arrangements, 401(k) plan with immediate vesting and company matching up to 6%, paid time away, and more.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, required.
  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience leading individuals to meet their deliverables.
  • Experience in accounting for life and annuity reinsurance transactions, including preparing and reviewing settlement files.
  • Experience in Life Insurance GAAP and STAT accounting and reporting required.
  • CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex policies and accounting concepts to your team members, peers in other departments, and management.
  • Strong coaching abilities and a history of successful coaching and mentoring of others.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, as needed, including adapting to different time zones for month, quarter, and year-ends, and ad hoc requirements.
