The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled Paralegal Aide to join our team. As a Paralegal Aide, you will provide administrative support to our legal team, assisting with a wide range of tasks related to case management, document preparation, and research.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct file reviews and provide guidance on case handling procedures
- Formulate legal strategies and draft legal documents, including answers, demands for discovery, and motions to dismiss
- Prepare letters and memoranda for insurance takeovers and assist in the preparation for trial of less serious claims
- Secure evidence by interviewing witnesses and other parties involved
- Assist attorneys with preparing and processing subpoenas, motions, and other legal documents
- Obtain, review, and maintain physical and electronic case files
- Perform legal research and database searches
- Submit and file documents with various courts and City agencies
- Perform routine administrative duties, including photocopying, filing, and data entry
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
- Two years of full-time satisfactory experience in paralegal services, acquired in the United States
- Experience must have involved the American Legal System
- Paralegal Certification obtained in the United States from an accredited program or a program approved by the American Bar Association can be substituted for 12 months of experience
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and either 1 year of full-time satisfactory experience in paralegal services or Paralegal Certification
- An associate degree or completion of 60 credits from an accredited college and three years of full-time satisfactory experience in paralegal services
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of full-time satisfactory experience in paralegal services
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
