Department Overview:
Student Health serves as a comprehensive on-campus primary healthcare facility for students. Auxiliary services include on-site laboratory, pharmacy, x-ray, lab, and physical therapy. Specialty services encompass psychiatry, gynecology, and sports medicine, complemented by an extensive alcohol and drug program.

Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Student Health Medical Director, the Physical Therapy Supervisor oversees the operations of the Student Health Physical Therapy department, which includes a team of physical therapists, a specialized orthotics therapist (independent contractor), a physical therapy assistant, a physical therapy aide, and an office manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage the master schedule for the department.
  • Oversee equipment management and ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Address staff issues and provide direct outpatient care to students.

Required Qualifications:
  • Valid California Physical Therapist license with a focus on outpatient orthopedic therapy.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Master's Degree or Doctorate from an accredited postgraduate program.
  • Proven experience in orthopedic physical therapy rehabilitation.
  • Background in pelvic floor and postural restoration.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supervising physical therapy professionals.

Special Conditions of Employment:
  • Compliance with mandated reporting requirements for Child Abuse and Adult Dependent Abuse.
  • Successful completion of background checks and credentialing processes prior to the start date.
  • Adherence to health department orders regarding vaccinations and safety protocols.
  • Annual Tuberculosis (TB) screening as per regulations.
  • Participation in the UCSB Respiratory Protection Program if applicable.
  • Compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
  • Note that Student Health is closed during certain holiday periods.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
Direct Patient Care - 75%:
  • Conduct standard examinations assessing muscle, nerve, joint, and functional abilities.
  • Develop treatment objectives and programs based on evaluations.
  • Communicate treatment objectives and methods to patients and their families.
  • Guide patients in exercises and functional training using various techniques.
  • Utilize physical modalities such as ultrasound, massage, and electrical stimulation.
  • Evaluate patient responses and progress, collaborating with other clinicians.
  • Maintain accurate records of treatments provided.
  • Pursue educational opportunities to enhance professional knowledge.

Physical Therapy Management - 25%:
  • Formulate protocols and policies for the department.
  • Engage in long and short-term planning regarding staffing and patient management.
  • Ensure safety and maintenance of equipment.
  • Guarantee quality patient care and documentation by professional staff.
  • Oversee compliance with physical therapy practice regulations.
  • Participate in departmental and campus committees.
  • Supervise staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
