Role Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer role is pivotal, providing direct support to the functional area manager. This position is integral to a specialized team focused on the production of optical components.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Offer technical direction and assistance to optical operators to optimize performance in current fabrication and measurement processes.
2. Implement lean manufacturing strategies to minimize process variability, reduce costs, and enhance yield.
3. Analyze root causes of failures or defects and initiate corrective actions to foster continuous improvement.
4. Spearhead non-recurring engineering initiatives, including the development of manufacturing test plans and readiness assessments, along with tooling design for new product integration.
5. Oversee capital equipment evaluations, planning, and implementation to ensure long-term operational stability.
6. Lead research and development projects to integrate new technologies into the manufacturing process.
Essential Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, or Material Science Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Proficiency in engineering principles related to mechanical design (CAD) and manufacturing, including a solid understanding of GD&T.
- Familiarity with at least one programming language such as Python, Matlab, or Excel VBA for data analysis.
- Experience in optical manufacturing measurement techniques, including interferometry, profilometry, and CMMs, or in optical manufacturing processes like grinding, polishing, ultraprecision diamond turning, optical molding, or thin film coating.
- U.S. citizenship is required due to facility regulations.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD software such as CREO, Solidworks, or Siemens NX.
- Experience with metrology software packages like Zygo or 4D is advantageous.
- Capability in data analysis to identify process enhancements and optimizations.
- Experience in hands-on manufacturing environments, including operator training on machinery.
