The Respiratory Specialty Care Unit at Carilion Clinic is a 20-bed telemetry unit that specializes in the care and management of patients with Pulmonary and other medicine-related illnesses. As a registered nurse on this unit, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population and develop your skills in critical care.

This unit can accommodate two chronically ventilated patients, providing a unique opportunity for nurses to gain experience in this specialized area of care.

As a registered nurse at Carilion Clinic, you are expected to consistently deliver exceptional care and customer service, demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in every interaction with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues.

The registered nurse assumes primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages. You will utilize delegation and critical thinking skills to provide quality service through a team-oriented, collaborative approach to patient care.

The RN's duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Completing age-specific admission and ongoing assessments, documenting and using them to develop a plan of care.
  • Collaborating with the healthcare team, patient, and family to develop, implement, and evaluate an age-specific interdisciplinary plan of care, revising it as needed.
  • Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care to achieve optimal outcomes for patients of all ages.
  • Accurately administering and documenting treatments and medications for patients of all ages using automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
  • Meeting sign-on bonus criteria.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing from an accredited college or eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam.

Experience: None required.

Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure. Obtain CPR and as needed ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications.

Other: Computer skills required for electronic medical records (EPIC). Successfully complete orientation and competency requirements. Meet essential job functions.
