Clinical Resource Unit Float Pool RN Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Clinical Resource Unit (CRU) Float Pool team at Carle Foundation Hospital. As a CRU Float Pool RN, you will provide high-quality patient care to various inpatient units, including Medical-Oncology, Surgical-Orthopedic, Cardiovascular Care Unit, Progressive Care Unit, Mental Health Unit, and Acute Rehab.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients with complex medical and surgical conditions, including coronary artery disease, angina, myocardial ischemia, myocardial infarction, dysrhythmia, syncope, congestive heart failure, strokes, cancer, cellulitis, post-surgical patients, and chest pain.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  • Conduct and document thorough assessments, nursing diagnoses, plans, implementations, and evaluations of patient care.
  • Float to various inpatient units to provide support and ensure continuity of care.
  • Manage care of acute and chronically ill cardiac and pulmonary patients.
  • Collaborate with patients and families to identify goals of care and design and maintain care plans.
  • Implement interventions as needed, including medication administration and evaluation of effects.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, pain management, IV venipuncture, blood administration, and monitor labs.
  • Discharge patients and provide instruction for safe transition from hospital.
  • Document all care using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Ensure team huddles are occurring and attend.
  • Delegate with appropriate follow-up.
  • Answer call lights.
  • Ensure basic care such as turning, toileting, etc. is done per standards of care.
  • Conflict management.
  • Professional communication with all team members.
  • Provides post-operative care for the complex surgical population.
  • Assesses and intervenes appropriately to ensure positive outcomes during the post-operative phase.
  • Assesses, manages, and educates patients and families.

Requirements:

  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License in Illinois.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 1 year.
  • Minimum of one year of inpatient nursing experience.
  • Attend and satisfactorily complete all required continuing education.
