The Senior Manager of Estate and Trust Taxation is tasked with ensuring the thorough, precise, and timely evaluation of all client tax submissions and communications.
Advanced expertise in various tax and accounting disciplines, coupled with strong management and supervisory capabilities, is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts comprehensive tax reviews and approvals for individual, trust, estate, and related entity tax filings to guarantee compliance with applicable tax regulations.
- Takes full ownership of larger tax filings and allocates tasks to the tax team as necessary.
- Oversees, manages, and executes tax research initiatives to deliver accurate and efficient outcomes.
- Engages actively in client consultations and tax strategy discussions, including wealth transfer, charitable contributions, and estate planning, to support the Audit and Client Services teams.
- Serves as a knowledgeable resource for tax and audit personnel regarding training, development, and specific tax inquiries.
- Informs relevant firm members about significant tax developments impacting clients.
- Manages governmental tax audits and may represent clients before tax authorities.
- Maintains awareness of the qualifications of tax staff members; assigns tasks based on expertise and project needs.
- Focuses on staff development through recruitment assistance, performance assessments, training resources, and mentorship in professional growth programs.
- Ensures the smooth processing of tax returns through the preparation system to guarantee timely and accurate delivery of all client tax returns.
- Possesses comprehensive knowledge of the firm's philosophy and stance on tax matters.
- Stays informed about economic and political trends, including tax legislation that may influence the business environment.
- Contributes to the firm's marketing initiatives through participation in community and industry engagements.
- Demonstrates technical proficiency in international tax matters and relevant forms, including Forms 706, 5227, and 1041.
Additional Responsibilities:
Prepares reports and projects as requested by partners.
Researches and assesses tax preparation and research software for partner recommendations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Educational and Experience Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in accounting is required; a Master's degree in taxation is preferred.
6-12 years of public accounting experience with increasing complexity in estate and gift tax return management and research capabilities.
A minimum of forty hours of continuing education annually is required to maintain and enhance technical and business skills, as well as to fulfill licensing obligations.
Required Licenses, Certifications, Knowledge, or Skills:
A valid certified public accountant's license is mandatory. Membership in good standing with the AICPA is required. Proficiency in tax preparation, research, and planning software, as well as relevant office technology, is essential.
