Job Overview:
SUMMARY
The Academic Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing activities related to academic guidance, assessment testing, and academic support within the designated Program or Department at approved educational institutions and the College.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage the instructional delivery system and maintain documentation for participant attendance and academic achievements.
2. Organize graduation ceremonies and assist in the planning of cultural and educational enrichment activities for participants.
3. Facilitate various remedial courses in Math, English, Science, and computer technology, along with study skills workshops.
4. Provide accurate and timely reports to the Director regarding program activities.
5. Offer constructive feedback to staff concerning participant progress.
6. Administer educational testing services to participants.
7. Coordinate assessment testing, weekly tutoring sessions, maintain regular contact with participants, and oversee transcripts and grade reports.
8. May provide functional supervision to part-time Instructional Assistants under the Director's guidance.
9. Assist the Director in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of instructional assistants.
10. Support the recruitment and selection process for participants.
11. Coordinate the preparation and distribution of progress reports.
12. Attend professional development meetings, workshops, and conferences.
13. Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (significant related experience may substitute for education).
- A minimum of three years of proven academic experience working directly with students from diverse social and economic backgrounds.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and instruction at the post-secondary level.
- Proven ability to make informed decisions that impact a team or work unit.
- Experience employing diverse problem-solving strategies in various scenarios.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Strong organizational and time-management capabilities.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient proofreading and editing abilities.
- Capacity to foster a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to research, analyze issues, and devise solutions.
- Competence in managing multiple projects in a deadline-driven setting.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to build and maintain productive relationships.
- Ability to respond effectively to requests from various levels within the College.
- Familiarity with concepts and practices supporting disadvantaged students.
- Basic project management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to handle sensitive matters with confidentiality and discretion.
- Capability to cultivate relationships with key contacts to enhance workflow and quality.
- Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master's degree in a related field.
- At least two years of direct experience in a similar program at a higher education institution.
- Experience with academic assessments and needs analysis.
- Supervisory experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The role is performed in a standard professional office environment, adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The employee may sit comfortably to perform job duties, with some requirements for walking, standing, and carrying light items such as papers and files. Occasional travel may be necessary for meetings and conferences.
