Corrections Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Corrections Officer to join our team at the Virginia Department of Human Resource Management. As a Corrections Officer, you will be responsible for providing daily canine support to our security operations, supervising inmate movement and activities, and ensuring the safe and secure confinement of adult inmates.
Key Responsibilities- Provides daily canine support to the unit's security operations
- Supervises inmate movement and activities to ensure safe and secure confinement
- Prepares reports and maintains logs
- Provides escape prevention duties, including supervising inmate movement and activities
- Reports on inmate conduct and testifies in court or at hearings as necessary
- Maintains and ensures proper readiness of assigned security equipment
- Conducts patrols in secure perimeter
- Current certification as a Corrections Officer by DCJS
- Working knowledge of Department of Corrections policies and procedures
- Experience training and handling canines
- Knowledge of standard methods of evidence gathering, seizure, and control
- Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures and to prepare workplace reports and documentation using a computer
- Experience as a Certified Corrections Officer, Sr. with performance rating of 'Contributor' or above
- Successful completion of all required training
- Demonstrated willingness and physical ability to work all posts and shifts
- Formal experience or education on training and/or caring for canines
