Position Overview

The Lead Manufacturing Projects Engineer will spearhead interdisciplinary teams comprising design, production, quality assurance, procurement, and program oversight to evaluate New Product Introduction (NPI) hardware and manufacturing technologies, assessing features of risk in accordance with DoD Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) Deskbook standards. This role involves guiding, managing, and monitoring the team in formulating and advancing a maturation strategy to develop essential manufacturing technologies and alleviate identified risks. The Lead Manufacturing Projects Engineer will also be tasked with establishing and maintaining standards and documentation, ensuring effective communication throughout the organization. They will serve as the subject matter expert on the DoD MRL Deskbook and act as a mentor and resource for the team. Additionally, they will play a pivotal role in shaping MRL strategies within GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation. This position offers moderate autonomy, necessitating high levels of operational judgment.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties
  • Oversee the development and management of engineering and technology initiatives. Responsible for delivering project scope within the initial budget estimates.
  • Manage timelines, financials, and integration of NPI and/or requisition projects, ensuring alignment with customer Critical to Quality (CTQ) requirements and achieving milestone objectives.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams in the formulation and management of risk-based manufacturing maturation plans (MMPs).
  • Collaborate with various teams to develop manufacturing processes for classified products.
  • Engage with clients and internal leadership to ensure compliance with GE MRL standards and the adequacy of risk mitigation evidence.
  • Act as a focal point for understanding cross-program requirements to ensure sufficient risk management and scheduling.
  • Identify the need for proactive manufacturing process development and lead the funding proposal process both internally and externally.
  • Document and provide training, guidance, and accountability for NPI execution in accordance with design practices, templates, quality standards, and the MRL development process.
  • Drive process enhancements and standardization of operations across programs through the FLIGHT DECK initiative.
  • Document best practices and create training materials for internal teams while facilitating external communication.
  • Serve as a resource for less experienced colleagues. May lead projects with moderate risks and resource demands. Communicate complex or sensitive information effectively; work towards consensus-building. Develop persuasive skills necessary to influence others on relevant topics.
  • Utilize judgment to make decisions or resolve moderately complex issues in operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering. Approach existing solutions from new perspectives. Leverage technical expertise for data analysis to support recommendations, utilizing multiple internal and limited external sources to inform decisions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, etc.) + 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering and/or project management.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
Preferred Attributes
  • 10+ years of experience in NPI manufacturing and/or project management.
  • Previous or current DoD Security Clearance.
  • Prior experience in NPI manufacturing.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in documenting, planning, marketing, and executing projects.
  • Established project management skills and experience with Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • Familiarity with MRL Deskbook.
