POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the GIS Coordinator, the GIS Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining and updating the GIS/Mapping database and CAMA database for the Potter-Randall Appraisal District. This position involves editing boundary lines and updating ownership details based on plat maps, deeds, and various land records. The technician will interact with the public to address inquiries regarding tax parcel locations and ownership details, requiring a courteous and knowledgeable demeanor. The role demands logical decision-making skills and accountability, with the ability to work independently when necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze and interpret plats, deeds, and other documents related to property ownership and boundaries.
  • Communicate and implement changes from various public entities.
  • Provide guidance to taxpayers, land agents, realtors, tax office personnel, title companies, and colleagues through various communication methods.
  • Establish new accounts resulting from new plats or subdivisions of existing accounts, ensuring all necessary updates in CAMA and GIS systems are completed.
  • Interpret account modifications as directed by appraisers.
  • Perform mathematical computations and calculations accurately.
  • Execute roll corrections due to account changes post-certification.
  • Draft correspondence to taxpayers regarding modifications to their accounts.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of inquiry programs on the computer.
  • Effectively relay essential information to customers based on inquiry program data.
  • Facilitate call transfers or contact other staff members for more detailed information.
  • Receive and act on instructions and corrections from management.
  • Assist colleagues with projects vital to the Appraisal District's operations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Exhibit independence and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary to achieve the objectives of the Appraisal District.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma with coursework in mathematics and business computer information systems.
  • Familiarity with GIS/Mapping software or related experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of modern office practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing job roles as required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, management, and the public.
  • Successful completion of five skill assessments (Numerical, Alphabetical, Name Checking, Number Checking, and Number Facility).

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Familiarity with various land measurement systems used in local land descriptions.
  • Ability to interpret metes and bounds descriptions in deeds and filed documents.
  • Understanding of coding and technical information related to computer software.
