Position Overview

UNC Health Appalachian Behavioral Health is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Therapist to provide high-quality therapeutic interventions and support to individuals in the Appalachian community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate clients' mental health needs, strengths, and challenges.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings and in collaboration with clients.
  • Provide evidence-based therapy modalities to address a range of mental health concerns, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, and relationship issues.
  • Offer crisis intervention and support to clients experiencing acute psychological distress or suicidal ideation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries, in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and case managers, to ensure coordinated and holistic care for clients.
  • Participate in regular case consultations, peer supervision, and professional development activities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Provide psychoeducation to clients and their families on topics related to mental health, coping strategies, and community resources.
  • Advocate for the needs of clients within the healthcare system and community settings, promoting access to quality mental health services and reducing stigma surrounding mental illness.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines and standards of practice set forth by relevant licensing boards and professional associations.
Qualifications:
  • Master's or doctoral degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure in North Carolina as an LCSW, LPA, LMFT, or LCMHC, with no restrictions or pending disciplinary actions.
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-licensure experience providing therapy in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in conducting diagnostic assessments, formulating treatment plans, and implementing evidence-based interventions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with diverse populations, including individuals from various cultural backgrounds and ages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively document clinical interactions and communicate with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to ethical principles and legal standards of practice.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends to accommodate client needs and program activities.
