Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiovascular Interventional Technologist III RTR or RCIS Cath Lab to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical System. This individual will be responsible for performing a variety of routine and specialized technical procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, assisting physicians in the performance of cardiovascular diagnostic testing and other therapeutic/interventional procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate fluoroscopy, digital angiography equipment, and other medical devices to apply ionizing radiation to cardiology patients in accordance with standard operating procedures and departmental policies.
  • Monitor patient hemodynamic and electrocardiography status, providing results to physicians and recording data in procedure logs.
  • Set up and maintain sterile fields, opening sterile procedure trays as needed.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations, utilizing CPR or contacting nursing or medical personnel as necessary.
  • Assist diagnostic and interventional cardiologists in establishing and maintaining percutaneous vascular access, managing intra-vascular sheaths, guide wires, and catheters.
  • Manage radiographic contrast and collect angiographic data, assisting interventional cardiologists during percutaneous coronary intervention.
  • Prepare contrast material for administration by physicians, utilizing pressure injectors and selecting proper parameters to ensure adequate opacification of prescribed anatomy.
  • Clean and disinfect radiographic equipment, performing minor maintenance and quality control procedures as needed.
  • Document all equipment problems in maintenance repair logs and complete records accurately, including billing, logbook, and procedural event logs.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • Certification from the ARRT as an RT(R)(CV), RT(R)(CI), or RT(R)(VI) and licensure by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, or certification from the CIC for RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) required.
  • Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting.
  • Maintenance of 20 contact hours of education every year.
  • Member of a professional organization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of radiology and cardiovascular principles and practices, including anatomy and physiology, radiation protection and physics, radiographic positioning, and general nursing procedures.
  • Ability to operate various types of equipment, including EKG, ACT, ISTAT blood gas analyzer, pulse oximeter, defibrillators, suction machines, and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to work with patients, medical, and nursing personnel.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served.
