We are currently seeking a Head of Financial Operations to establish and uphold financial practices and procedures that guarantee precise and timely financial reporting. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance, this role is pivotal in ensuring that the organization’s financial responsibilities are allocated and executed accurately and promptly. The Head of Financial Operations will lead a dedicated team to manage all financial activities, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, year-end audit preparations, budget support, and payroll processing. This position requires adept management of multiple projects while exercising sound judgment in prioritizing tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management: Leadership | Attention to Detail

  • Oversee a team of three Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable professionals.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, including receivables and revenue streams.
  • Document monthly transactions related to investments, trusts, employee benefits, and restricted funds.
  • Verify vendor payments for accuracy.
  • Generate quarterly and monthly financial reports for review by the Board of Trustees, senior management, and program directors.
  • Prepare year-end audit documentation and assist with annual audit and tax form preparations.
  • Enhance and maintain accounting processes and procedures to ensure departmental functions are executed with the highest quality standards.
  • Contribute to the development and compliance of accounting policies and procedures.

Payroll Management: Organization | Confidentiality | Ethics

  • Process transactions related to bi-weekly payroll.
  • Ensure accurate remittance of funds to retirement and health savings accounts.
  • Conduct annual compliance testing for retirement plans.
  • Prepare documentation for annual discretionary contributions.
  • Assist with annual audits related to retirement plans.
  • Support additional compliance efforts as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience, ideally within a nonprofit setting. Experience in public accounting is also advantageous.
  • Proven management or supervisory experience is essential.
  • Customer Focus: Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent service and maintaining a strong reputation for integrity and professionalism.
