Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and troubleshoot computational, cell line, mouse, and human experiments.
- Regularly engage with laboratory members and collaborators, managing research project timelines and expectations. Supervise a team of three or more full-time equivalent employees weekly.
- Set goals, schedule, and coordinate laboratory administration, including budgeting, planning, and the procurement/maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Manage lab presentation schedules.
- Oversee the recruitment process for laboratory personnel, including hiring, termination, and promotion recommendations, as well as training and mentoring lab members.
- Manage staff salaries, work hours, and direct their tasks. Address complaints and grievances, and enforce disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Monitor laboratory protocols and ensure compliance with Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards.
- Organize, draft, and submit research papers and grant proposals, assisting with data collection, table creation, section writing, figure preparation, budget formulation, and obtaining necessary paperwork.
- Master's degree.
- 1-3 years of experience in bioinformatics, computer programming, wet lab work, and laboratory management.
- Experience collaborating with administrative and human resources teams for hiring and budget management.
- Proficiency in R and/or Python is essential. Familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe PDF, and email is required.
- Candidates must possess exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, strong people management abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a diverse research team. A proven history of contributing to research publications and grant applications, along with effective communication skills, is essential.
- Professional management training is preferred.

Work agreements are reviewed annually and may change at any time for any reason during employment.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background checks and pre-employment drug testing on candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer, potentially utilizing a third-party administrator for screenings.
Background checks are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other campuses.
