Clinical Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor

The Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our full-service, 24-hour academic laboratory. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality testing processes, training, and competency of staff, as well as scheduling and payroll approval.
Key Responsibilities:- Operational Oversight: Participate in interviews, select and extend job offers, and provide orientation and onboarding to lab and departmental policies.
- Training, Competency, and Education: Create educational opportunities for self and others, oversee and evaluate training of all personnel, and review and approve training checklists.
- Staff Engagement: Determine performance objectives, conduct formal reviews, and evaluate employee skills and assess educational and training needs.
- Departmental Responsibilities: Review and approve paid time off requests, approve payroll for direct reports, and provide day-to-day administrative supervision.
- Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Compliance: Monitor test analyses, assure that all remedial actions are taken, and coordinate and participate in monitoring the laboratory Quality Assurance Program.
- Management: Coordinate with the management team to optimize workflow, introduce new procedures, and select new equipment.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science or biological science.
- Expertise in one or more areas of clinical microbiology testing.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a clinical laboratory, 3-5 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
