Medical Assistant/Referral Coordinator Job Description

OnPoint Medical Group is seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant/Referral Coordinator to join our team at OnPoint Family Medicine. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and wellness of our patients and their families.

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant/Referral Coordinator assists the provider in examination and treatment of patients, handles referrals, and coordinates activities related to insurance pre-certification/authorization. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist providers during examination and treatment, performing point of care tests as needed
  • Document patient information accurately and efficiently in the electronic medical record
  • Coordinate referrals and pre-certification/authorization activities
  • Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and insurance carriers
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records
  • Perform administrative duties, including patient registration and verification of benefits
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Graduate of an accredited healthcare program, such as Medical Assistant, CNA, LPN, or EMT
  • Nationally recognized as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred
  • Strong computer skills and experience with EMR systems
  • 1-3 years of experience in Family or Pediatrics

Working Conditions:

This role requires standing, walking, and lifting up to 20 pounds, with occasional lifting of more than 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
