Job Overview

PRIMARY ROLE:

Accountable for delivering expert clinical nutrition services, which encompass comprehensive nutrition evaluations, tailored dietary planning, patient self-management education, and nutritional interventions. Aims to achieve high levels of patient satisfaction, ensure quality care, comply with regulatory standards, and maintain positive public relations through the prudent and effective utilization of resources.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Dietetics/Nutrition from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an ADA accredited dietetic internship program.
  • Preferred: One year of experience in dietetics within an acute care environment.
Certification/Licensure:
  • Registered Dietitian credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration or eligible for registration.
  • Registration must be obtained within six months of employment.
Key Responsibilities:

Accurate documentation of all pertinent aspects of medical nutrition therapy and assessments in line with care standards:
  • Consultations to be finalized within 48 hours of referral.
  • Assign appropriate risk factors.
  • Utilize the correct charting format (scorecard).
  • Document food preferences, allergies, and tolerances.
  • Ensure documentation is age-appropriate.
  • Integrate current evidence-based research into practice.
  • Adhere to regulatory standards set by federal, state, and accrediting bodies.
Participation in meetings:
  • Attend 80% of patient care management meetings.
  • Engage in committee meetings.
  • Participate in departmental in-services.
Patient and consumer education on nutritional care:
  • Provide individual education sessions.
  • Conduct group classes.
  • Engage in community speaking events.
Menu monitoring and diet pattern preparation:
  • Ensure compliance with physician directives.
  • Complete tasks timely and accurately.
Serve as a resource for nursing and medical staff:
  • Provide orientation, mentorship, and training for staff and interns as necessary.
Assist in the maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.

Maintain departmental records and documentation:
  • Compile monthly reports.
  • Ensure patient educational materials are current and accurate.
  • Keep an accurate communication/patient visit log.
Promote professional development:
  • Attend seminars and lectures for continuing education units (CEUs) for Registered Dietitian status.
  • Stay informed with current literature from professional journals.
Prepare necessary written documentation for the department:
  • Conduct meal rounds.
  • Evaluate test trays.
Engage in departmental in-services as assigned.

Achieve a minimum competency score of 80%.
