ROLE OVERVIEW

The IT Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in overseeing and supporting the Windows systems and applications utilized at ASCD+ISTE. This position entails effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and associated infrastructure, including Azure, Intune, and Mosyle administration. The IT Systems Engineer guarantees that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures comply with organizational standards and best practices for operational support. This role also involves assisting project teams with technical challenges during planning phases and supporting help desk personnel in troubleshooting and resolving issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and manage the ASCD+ISTE Active Directory environment, including the removal of outdated policies, accounts, and organizational unit structures, acting as the primary steward of this environment.
  • Handle authentication and authorization requirements of directory services to create, modify, and delete user accounts as necessary.
  • Act as a point of escalation for junior systems engineers and IT support staff.
  • Resolve complex technical issues with minimal oversight.
  • Develop and maintain thorough documentation for all implemented systems and processes.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior team members and end-users.
  • Administer and manage Windows and Mac environments utilizing Intune and Mosyle.
  • Design, deploy, and manage scalable, secure, and reliable cloud infrastructure solutions leveraging Microsoft Azure and AWS.
  • Ensure optimal performance, availability, and security of cloud environments.
  • Review access permissions and built-in groups for effective and secure access, assisting with recommendations and reorganization efforts aligned with ASCD+ISTE and industry best practices.
  • Conduct daily system monitoring to verify the integrity and availability of all server hardware resources, systems, and key processes.
WHAT WE VALUE

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification in Microsoft Azure (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator).
  • Relevant AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator).
  • In-depth knowledge of Active Directory.

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience with Windows, Active Directory, Group Policies, and backup systems.
  • A four-year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or a related technical field is preferred.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure and AWS cloud platforms.
  • Proven experience managing Windows and Mac environments using Intune and Mosyle.
  • Extensive background in system administration, including configuration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
  • Solid understanding of network security principles and best practices.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) is advantageous.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Detail-oriented with robust organizational and project management skills.
