Yarn Coating Line Tender Job Description

At Phifer Inc, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Yarn Coating Line Tender to join our team. As a key member of our production team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of our yarn coating production line.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular quality walks through work areas to ensure compliance with company standards and regulations.
  • Fiberglass Handling: Inspect, load, and thread fiberglass (raw glass) by hand from creel around tension whorl through eyelets until it exits the creel and tie off glass by following established procedures.
  • Coating Operations: Thread glass ends by hand through vat eyelets in correct sequence through the dies to carrier bar by following established procedures.
  • Winding and Packaging: Carry glass ends by hand to winder area wrapping glass around nose of winders onto cores by following established procedures.
  • Start-up and Shutdown: Start packages using start-up procedures and perform end-of-shift duties as documented.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain creel, clean dies, and perform other equipment maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Quality Monitoring: Monitor the quality of coated fiberglass and take corrective action as necessary.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Adaptability: Adapt to changing conditions and work overtime as scheduled or assigned.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency and quality.
Requirements:
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Assessment: Assessed at an 8th grade level or higher on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) exam through our Continuous Education and Development (CED) program.
  • Experience: 6 months previous work experience in manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
  • Skills: Experience in yarn coating operations and certification to operate material handling equipment.
Physical Demands:
  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to push, pull, front carry, horizontal lift, floor to waist, and waist to crown lift using correct lifting procedures.
  • Standing and Walking: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and flex trunk constantly.
  • Squatting and Kneeling: Ability to squat, kneel, and crouch frequently.
  • Visual Acuity: 20/35 correctable vision in each eye.
