Job Overview

The Advocacy Specialist for At-Risk Youth plays a crucial role in providing outreach, support, and case management to young adults who have experienced sexual exploitation.

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Manager of Outreach and Supportive Services.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement and Outreach

  1. Establish connections and build trust with young adults aged 18-24 who are facing homelessness, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation.
  2. Conduct outreach efforts at various community venues such as organizations, libraries, schools, and social service agencies to educate young adults about available services.
  3. Foster relationships with legal systems, including courts and law enforcement, to support the youth in navigating these environments.

Direct Service Responsibilities

  1. Provide personalized advocacy for young individuals who are survivors of commercial sexual exploitation or are at risk.
  2. Create tailored, trauma-informed service plans focusing on education, employment, health, housing, life skills, mental health, safety, and substance use.
  3. Maintain ongoing communication with clients to address their evolving needs and crises.
  4. Assist young adults in navigating various systems, including social services and the justice system.
  5. Connect clients to community resources in education, employment, health, and mental health services.
  6. Collaborate with internal staff and community partners to support clients in achieving safety and accessing necessary services.

Administrative Duties

  1. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of client files, including enrollment forms and case notes for up to 15 clients.
  2. Prepare monthly reports in accordance with agency requirements.
  3. Engage in weekly supervision and monthly team meetings for case consultation.

Qualifications

a. Education and Experience

  1. A Bachelor's degree in a human services field is preferred.
  2. At least 2 years of relevant experience working directly with young adults who have faced commercial sexual exploitation.
  3. Knowledge of crisis intervention, child welfare, domestic violence, and trauma-informed care.
  4. Experience in networking and advocating for access to educational and social resources.
  5. Familiarity with motivational interviewing techniques is preferred.
  6. Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software.

b. Additional Requirements

  1. Must pass a criminal history background check.
  2. Must pass a tuberculosis (TB) test.
  3. Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are required.
  4. Must complete health certification requirements, including CPR and First Aid, within 30 days of employment.
  5. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory.
