Job Summary

Vidant Health is seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Representative I to create a positive first impression for our patients and families. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for scheduling outpatient appointments, registering patients, and collecting necessary information to ensure accurate billing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interact with physicians and their offices to obtain diagnosis and procedure information.
  • Use scheduling software to schedule procedures based on physician orders.
  • Obtain diagnosis and procedure information from patients, clinical departments, or physician offices to perform necessary screenings.
  • Interview patients to obtain scheduling and registration information.
  • Handle incoming calls and schedule patients for the correct procedure in the appropriate service area.
  • Collect and enter accurate demographic, financial, and clinical information into the electronic health record.
  • Provide timely and thorough information to other providers and customers who utilize patient data.
  • Review registration accounts for accuracy to ensure proper reimbursement.
  • Obtain signatures on consent forms, HIPAA notices, and other required documents.
  • Explain financial obligations, negotiate payment arrangements, and collect patient copayments or other uninsured balances.
  • Verify insurance benefits and obtain authorizations and pre-certification as needed.
  • Ensure all required documents are scanned into the patient's electronic health record.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2 years of customer service experience required; 1-2 years of registration and/or billing experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Excellent communication, detail orientation, organization, and multitasking skills required.
  • Basic computer skills.
