Position Summary:
The individual in this role will execute skilled tasks in the upkeep, repair, and modification of buildings and facilities owned by the City. Responsibilities may encompass a variety of trades including carpentry, plumbing, roofing, and painting. A high level of proficiency in multiple trades is expected, with the ability to handle diverse assignments communicated through oral or written work orders. The work is primarily conducted independently, with the employee responsible for selecting appropriate methods, tools, and materials for tasks. Oversight will be provided by the Public Works Director or their designee, who will review work during and after completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct skilled maintenance and repair work on buildings and facilities.
- Install various types of flooring including wood, linoleum, carpet, or tile.
- Utilize shop equipment and power tools for carpentry tasks.
- Install doors and window frames.
- Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
- Repair roofing and replace defective materials.
- Maintain and repair wooden furniture and fixtures.
- Paint surfaces using various application methods.
- Conduct minor electrical repairs and maintenance.
- Estimate and procure necessary materials and supplies.
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas and equipment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Kansas Driver's License (CDL preferred).
- Minimum of three years of experience in maintenance or construction.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in the use and maintenance of hand tools and power equipment.
- Familiarity with building maintenance methods and materials.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
